Emergency Preparedness & Cyber-Safety @ Warren Library

June marks the beginning of hurricane season and it is also National Internet Safety Month.  The Warren Twp. Library will focus on those important topics with a number of timely programs.

On Monday, June 3rd at 7 pm Tony DeMatteo, Emergency Support Specialist, from the Somerset County Office of Emergency Management will present “Emergency Preparedness, Are You Ready?”  Tony will review a 72 hours emergency preparedness plan and will go over the contents of a sample emergency kit.  He will also review available opportunities for the general public including CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), CART (Community Animal Response Team) and other areas of volunteer emergency services training.

Cyber-Safety for Teens - Recommended for grades 6-12.  Thursday, June 6 @ 6 pm. Stay Safe Online! It’s crucial for today’s teens to learn how to protect themselves online. In this multimedia presentation for teens, popular cyber-safety expert Sgt. Thomas Rich takes an in-depth look at social media sites, examines Facebook profiles and privacy settings, and gives real life examples of cyber-bullying and the dangers of on-line chatting. Sgt Rich, a NJ police officer and founder of “Always Connected” has been featured on “Good Morning America” and has spoken to thousands of teens about online safety.

Sgt. Thomas Rich will then address parents and concerned adults in general on Thursday, June 6 from 7 to 8:30 pm.  This talk geared towards adults will examine real life examples of the huge impact that technology is having on children with regards to cyber-bullying and the dangers of on-line chatting. He brings the real world experience of what kids are going through on a daily basis. Using entertaining videos and encouraging audience participation, Sgt. Rich will suggest positive solutions to the hard questions that children face every day and will address how technology can be used in moderation and positively by our youth. To know more about Sgt.
