Library Van Delivers

Patrons of the Somerset County Library System (SCLS) are used to reserving materials throughout the system and quickly receiving their requests at any of the ten branches they have chosen.  Mail, new materials, and various other items similarly make their way from one end of the system to the other.  Recently, a new van, customized to showcase some of the library’s services, hit the road, making those deliveries.

“Our delivery vehicles are showing their age.  Through some cost savings and other efficiencies, we were able to replace an 18 year old van, giving us a reliable vehicle to make timely deliveries of materials throughout SCLS,” remarked Brian Auger, director of SCLS.

More information is available by calling SCLS at (908)526-4016 or visiting the website at http://www.sclsnj.org.  The Somerset County Library System has branches in Bridgewater, Bound Brook, Hillsborough, Manville, at the Mary Jacobs Library in Rocky Hill, North Plainfield, Peapack & Gladstone, Somerville, Warren Township and Watchung.

Book Buddies @ the Bridgewater Library

Every Wednesday, young children excitedly come to the Bridgewater Library to meet up with a buddy - a Book Buddy!

Join the Bridgewater Library and our teen volunteers on Wednesday, July 25th, from 1:30-3:30pm, for Book Buddies, a fun, interactive program where early and pre-readers choose a picture book to read to their Buddy or have read to them.  Each week’s program has a different theme, and once children finish their story, they are encouraged to create a simple craft with their Buddy.

This weekly initiative is a fun way for young readers to have a shared reading experience outside of the family routine, helping to support and encourage reading as a lifelong activity.

Our teen volunteers can’t wait to meet and sit down with your young and eager readers!

The Bound Brook Library presents...

Movie Fighting Magic

Tuesday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Join Professor Stephen Davis and learn the secrets behind a believable tage fight. Come develop the tools you need to make a stage fight look realistic. Street brawls, hair pulling, and punches are choreographed with the precision of ballet and the safety of the participants always in mind.

Of course, once you learn how to fake a slap/choke/hair pull/punch, you will need to have the bruises to show for it! In the second part of this program, you will learn how to apply trauma simulation makeup - and even get a chance to look like you just stepped out of an action movie! This is a hands on, physical activity, so be dressed comfortably and ready to move.

Stephen Davis is the Professor of Theatre Arts at Centenary College.
