Bridgewater, NJ

The events of December 14th, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT sent a shock wave across the nation as we learned of a senseless tragedy that took the lives of 26 innocent victims, most of whom were children.  Our hearts and our thoughts have been with the families who continue to mourn, as many of us ask what we can do to help. On Thursday, January 17th, a very special presentation, sponsored by the Bridgewater Library’s Open Mic Night program, will aim to do just that as local performers will lend their voices to benefit those families with an evening of music.

Scheduled to perform are: Aniket Sanyal, Bob Fenster, TS Sundar, Sharleen Leahey, Larry Gaffney, Tony Parisi, Thomas Dolina III, Kyle Pucciarello and more.  We are very pleased to announce that two more artists have joined the bill: up-and-coming local rock band Your Gentlemen, and acclaimed folk artist Spook Handy.

Light refreshments are being provided by Starbucks and Generoso's Pizza.   There will be several ways to make a contribution to help benefit the victims’ families, with all proceeds from the concert benefiting the Newtown Memorial Fund, the Newtown Youth and Family Services, and the Sandy Hook School Support Fund sponsored by the United Way.

For more information on how you can help or how to participate, please contact Kyle Pucciarello at (908) 526-4016 ext. 197 or kpucciar@sclibnj.org.

The Mary Jacobs Library presents Art in the Area: Christine Giviskos, Associate Curator of European Art, Zimmerli Museum

When: Tuesday, January 8 at 7:00 pm

Where: Mary Jacobs Library - 64 Washington Street - Rocky Hill, NJ 08553 - Phone: 609-924-7073

Le Mur at the Cabaret des Quat’z’Arts
Between 1894 and 1905, a group of artists and poets who frequented the Cabaret des Quat’z’Arts in the Montmartre district of Paris produced Le Mur (The Wall), a changing display of drawings, poems, and newspaper clippings that were mounted on a wall of the cabaret. The Zimmerli’s collection features 1,500 sheets from this unique journal, in which contributors satirically commented on current events, literature, and art. Organized to complement the special exhibition Art=Text=Art, this installation of approximately 50 sheets from Le Mur evokes the experience of this journal, which crossed the boundaries between the verbal and the visual.

Join Christine Giviskos, Associate Curator of European Art for a discussion of this wonderful show.

Registration is required for this program. For more information about any of our programs, or to register, visit us at 64 Washington Street in Rocky Hill or call 609-924-7073 ext 4.  For a complete list of upcoming Library programs and additional information about the Somerset County Library System visit www.sclsnj.org.
