March is "Read Aloud Month" @ Warren Twp Library

WHERE: Warren Twp Library - 42 Mountain Boulevard, Warren, NJ 07059 - Phone: 908-754-5554
WHEN: Throughout March 2012

March is “Family Read Aloud Month” at the Warren Twp Library.  All you have to do is find a cozy spot and read aloud to one another.  Choose stories, poems, and jokes or even listen to audio books together.  Any type of reading counts and family members of all ages may join in the fun. Stop by the Children’s Services Desk to pick up a packet of information, with everything you need to participate and to find out about weekly games and prizes. For every 15 minutes of reading aloud with your family, color or decorate one book on the log you will receive.  Be creative while decorating your log as all book logs will be displayed in the Youth Services Department at the conclusion of the program. For each completed log returned on or before March 31st, your family will be entered in a drawing for a prize.  Visit the Warren Library Children’s Desk each week to guess the title of a book featured on the bulletin board for your chance to win a book.  One correct answer will be picked every Monday until the end of the month.  Most of all…have fun reading aloud with your family!

The Bound Brook Library presents...

Emily Dickinson

Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m.

Though few of her poems were published during her lifetime, Emily Dickinson became one of America’s most prolific and well-known poets.  Her poetry is esoteric and haunting, at times hard to comprehend, but always containing a message, opinion, or statement of who she was and how she saw the world.  We will discuss the life experiences and the social world that created both the woman and the poet.

This program is free and open to the public.  Registration is requested.  Call (732) 356-0043 to sign up or click on http://www.libraryinsight.net/eventdetails.asp?jx=jbp&lmx=246112 to register online.

Performed in period costume by Trish Chambers.

The Mary Jacobs Library Presents Year of the Dragon: Chinese Culture, Myths and Legends

Tuesday, March 13 @ 7 pm
Mary Jacobs Library
64 Washington Street
Rocky Hill, NJ 08553
Phone: 609-924-7073

Experience a powerpoint presentation on traditional Chinese culture that will cover information on Chinese history, literature and dance at the Mary Jacobs Library on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:00 pm.
For 5,000 years, Chinese culture was heralded as a divine gift. Its values of benevolence, honor, etiquette, wisdom, and sincerity were perpetuated for generations and dynasties, all the way into the contemporary era.

The presentation aims to bridge an understanding of the ancient Chinese civilization with the modern world, and thereby share some of the most classic stories in Chinese history. The presentations uses Shen Yun Performing Arts and Chinese dance as a cultural lens, both to meaningfully bring this culture into the modern day, and to explain how the virtues of Chinese history are being perpetuated by modern artists. This will surely be an educational and inspiring session.

Covered in the presentation will be the essence of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and civilization; as well as storytelling through classical Chinese dance and music.
