Meet children’s author Ame Dyckman and learn about “Snapshots that Changed History” with photographer Jim DelGiudice at the Warren Library on Saturday, November 2

Children’s author Ame Dyckman will visit the library on Saturday at 11 am to talk about her new books: “Boy + Bot”, an adorable story of friendship between a boy and a robot; and “Tea Party Rules”, a laugh-out-loud look at the required give-and-take of playtime, with the backdrop of a backyard tea party with a special guest…Crafts, giveaways and refreshments will follow Ame’s stories.  The proceeds from book sales at this program will benefit the Friends of the Warren Library. This program is geared toward children ages 4 to 8.  To register online please click on this link http://bit.ly/1aoEIU2 or call the Youth Services Department at 908-754-5554 ext 23.

This Saturday’s program for adults will feature NJ photographer Jim DelGiudice in “Gotcha! Snapshots that Changed History” at 2 pm.  Certain images have done more than just document events.  And some of the best images were snapshots—captured purely by luck.  In this lecture, NJ photographer Jim DelGiudice will look at photos that changed history by accident—why a snapshot of Abe Lincoln’s tousled hair, for example, helped gain him the presidency.  Along with each image, DelGiudice will examine its historical context—how and why it happened— and what it was that made the photographer say… “Gotcha!” . Registration is required.  To register online click on this link http://bit.ly/19SEqC0 or call 908-7754-5554 ext 64 for more information and assistance with registration.

Pulitzer Prize Winner Jonathan Schuppe @ Warren Library

On Saturday, October 19th at 2 pm, meet Pulitzer Prize winner, journalist Jonathan Schuppe at the Warren Twp Library.  He will talk about his book 'A Chance to Win', which chronicles the incredible true story of Newark's South Ward Little League team, founded by a remarkable man named Rodney Mason.  “A man with no legs teaches the forgotten children of Newark how to run for glory', summarized Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Suskind. All the Newark Eagles really needed was to be given an opportunity to succeed; a chance to win.

Written with Schuppe’s careful journalistic eye, 'A Chance to Win' is a vivid portrait of a struggling city and its forgotten people; of boyhood and fatherhood, failure and ambition. It’s a story of unexpected friendships, harsh realities and ultimately, of hope.  Jonathan Schuppe is an award-winning journalist who has shared a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey's resignation. He won the coveted J. Anthony Lukas Work-in-Progress Prize for A Chance to Win. ‘A Chance to Win’ was reviewed on Sunday by The New York Times http://nyti.ms/1g3de9E .
